Meet the Team
Dr. Fiona Simpson
-
Dr. Fiona Simpson is a highly-cited scientist, a graduate of a pioneering regenerative medicine research group, and the first author of two groundbreaking studies on biomimetic alternatives to organ donation.
-
Fiona received her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Université de Montréal. Her graduate thesis on biomimetic materials for in situ corneal regeneration won the 2021-2022 IGB Award for Best Doctoral Thesis. She has been awarded a NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship, a FRQNT Doctoral Scholarship, and the Rector’s Honor List. Fiona received her Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from McMaster University in 2007. Fiona served as the director of the OPhthalmic Tissue Engineering Cleanrooms (OPTEC) at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont since their inception in 2018 to 2021. She has also worked as a technician for the manufacture of ISO 13485:2016 compliant medical devices.
Dr. Elle Edin
-
Dr. Elle Edin is breaking new ground in cutting-edge polymer chemistry. She has developed medical devices for two world-leading regenerative medicine groups and literally wrote the book on the implementation of nanosciences to combat aging.
-
Elle received her doctorate in polymer chemistry from Uppsala University in 2018. Elle also holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Genetics and Physiology as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Linköping University. As a postdoctoral fellow, she developed new biomaterials formulations for corneal implants and in situ fillers. Elle has previously worked as a technician for the manufacture of ISO 13485:2016 compliant medical devices.
